I am new into XC mountain biking. Main goal is to enjoy the great outdoor. Currently, using a loaned full susp Haro Extreme 6 and didn't like it. Would like to get my own bike for less than 1k. Hope to get recommendation of specific model(hard tail). Prefer good frame with lower end components so that I can upgrade as my skill progresses.

I've got a trek 3900 right now, and its not really performing like i'd like a mountain bike to. I'm definitely investing in disc brakes and a solid fork on the next bike i buy

How much should I ask for this mountain bike?

I have a 98 Trek 7000 Mountain bike with full Deore XT, Ti liberator saddle, USE shokpost, Judy XC fork with "air ride" internals, Mavic 217 rims and Bontrager Crowbar with Icon stem, and Time ATAC pedals. It's very tricked out but so old! Frame is clean with few if any scratches. I'd say it was worth $750.00 new and all the upgrades pushes that up way past a grand, but I know an old bike is hard to ditch. Any ideas on what I should ask for the bike?
The components are in great shape too, they are built to take abuse and the bike really wasn't ridden that hard. Thanks for all your responses!

How much of a disadvantage is it to get mountain biking shoes instead of road biking shoes for a road bike?

It seems like there's a lot of disparity from one brand's shoe to the next, whether the shoes are made for road biking or mountain biking. Some mountain biking shoes seem more comfortable for everyday use or for walking. What's the downside in getting mountain biking shoes for a road bike?

What mountain bike is good for the road more than the rough terrain?

I have heard that there are mountain bikes that are good for all terrains but perform better on smooth surfaces also. Can anyone recommend a bike that is like this and isn't overly expensive. I was thinking about getting a Columbia trail head Mt bike. Any other suggestions?

I'm an athletic and fairly muscled 38-year-old man. I'm 6'6" tall and I weigh 255 pounds. I live south of Anchorage, Alaska -- a great place for mountain biking with an abundance of open terrain and trails.

I'm new to mountain biking. This summer I'd like to switch over from my past routines of prolific hiking and jogging to biking.

I need a recommendation on a mountain bike for an individual my size. My price range is $3000-$5000.

Thanks!

What can I expect from a Mountain Bike Trail?

I'm planning to go biking in a Mountain Bike Trail but I've never been or seen a mountain bike trail, so I was wondering what will I see once I get there, I mean, are the paths always made of concrete (like a sidewalk) or is it a natural path?
Also I need to buy a bike to go there, what would you recomend me and in what price range are the Mountain Bike Trail bikes?
Thanks in advance.
